Job Description

Discovery Education is looking for a Visual Designer. You will work under the supervision of an Art Lead to produce high-quality work. This position will work collaboratively with the design, curriculum and product teams to ideate and execute on creative strategies that meet department and project goals.

This is a remote contract role.

About the Role

  • Producing functional, attractive and effective designs for educational purposes.
  • The medium will primarily be digital. The focus will be on lessons imbued with storytelling through the lens of lessons and gaming.
  • Communicate designs with internal team members to ensure lesson goals are met.
  • Partner with Art Lead in the creation and final implementation of production-ready assets.
  • Supporting the many cross-department teams throughout the execution of fast turn-around deliverables ofcontent needs for the platform.
  • Help resolve any art-related issues that arise in testing of the product.

Requirements

  • BFA in visual Interaction design or similar field.
  • At least 3+ years related experience.
  • Eye-catching portfolio reflecting experience in digital interaction design, and design for learning (including student and teacher resources).
  • Deep understanding of game design and related UI/UX,
  • The ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Creative industry experience or a background of working as part of a design team a plus.
  • The ability to see projects through from inception to production.
  • Good organizational skills that support the rest of the team.
  • The motivation to maintain and improve design standards.
  • Experience creating and utilizing comprehensive design systems and style guides across multiple areas of product. Adding to the current design system through research, wireframing and component design.
  • The willingness to listen to feedback and use it to improve.
  • Adeptness with leading interaction design software:
    • Adobe Creative Cloud, particular to Photoshop, Illustrator and Animate
    • Figma or similar wireframing tool
    • Gaming design, 3D rendering, and development software could include but is not limited to Unity, Blender, Adobe Animate
    • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
    • Illustration skills- Procreate a plus
  • Legal right to work in the United States.
