Job Description

The Confluential Company (TCC) is a Black-owned, Black-founded parent company that encompasses the brand Black Love as well as Confluential Films. Confluential Films is a production studio and financier focused on BIPOC filmmakers and stories that are culturally specific with an authentic but commercially viable narrative. Black Love is a media brand dedicated to showcasing diverse and authentic representations of love within the Black community. Our endeavors span film, television, documentary, original digital content, audio, live events, and social media.

Job Summary

The Financial Controller will be a critical component of our finance team, responsible for managing the entirety of our financial operations. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). She/he should possess an enthusiasm to join at the ground level in a highly passionate, fast-paced and execution-oriented organization.

What you will do:

  • Oversee all finance operations, including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and tax compliance. Ensure the finance department infrastructure (software, processes, controls) are structured effectively to support the company’s growth and operational needs.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the company’s financial status.
  • Own the month-end close process to ensure the timely, accurate, and efficient closing of the company's books, coordinating with departments to gather data, review entries, and enforce deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process with external auditors.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding finances and taxation. Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of new financial technologies and systems to support scaling operations.
  • Design, implement, and oversee robust internal controls and financial policies to safeguard assets, improve operations efficiency, and reduce financial risks. Continuously assess and refine financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline with 10+ years of relevant work experience in progressive senior roles
  • CPA license (active)
  • Ideal experience working in public accounting; entertainment industry; startup environments
  • Deep working technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas
  • Detail oriented with superior organization and excellent analytical skills
  • Experience working in mid-market ERP (Intacct, Netsuite)
  • Impactful business partner with strong communications and presentation skills able to effectively collaborate across departments and build trusted relationships
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience working with popular startup/early-stage solutions
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to provide actionable financial insights.
  • Superior time management skills; ability to influence and lead others, and manage priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.

Benefits

TCC provides a competitive salary range between $180,000-$215,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We have embraced a hybrid work model, combining the flexibility of remote work with in-person collaboration. As such, we’re looking for candidates based in Los Angeles and willing and able to commute to the office 3x/week.
