We’re currently looking for a Paint/Materials Engineer to join our team in Farmington Hills, MI.
This role will be responsible for developing various coatings and polymeric materials, mainly automotive finishing top coat but also potentially including adhesives, sealants, plastic top coats for interior and exterior trims, anti-corrosion treatments, etc. for automobiles. The role will require coordination with Suppliers, Manufacturing Plants, Design Engineers and Purchasing to achieve company KPI’s (Quality, Cost, Schedule). In addition, will be responsible for generating, developing and implementing novel ideas that contribute to vehicle quality improvement, cost reduction or weigh reduction.
Job functions include but are not limited to:
Paint Finishing material and color qualification activities using company engineering standards
Establish test plan, perform or direct testing using in-house or out-source resources, write technical reports to communicate the progress or evaluation judgment
Identify and define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions
Value Optimization (cost reduction) activity management
Research US local material technologies and create new product specification
Work independently within a fixed schedule; domestic and international travel as required
Minimum Qualifications:
BS degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering, or related field; 5 years of experience in related field, or combination of advanced degree education and experience is desired
Experience with all aspects of organic coatings or polymeric materials, including but not limited to testing methods and equipment, production processes, polymer chemistry and formulations, applications, etc.
Experience with design release and drawing creation desirable
Direct experience with problem analysis and root cause investigation, such as FTA, and product development and failure prevention, such as FMEA, desired
Excellent communication/interpersonal skills required; Experience working in a multicultural environment desired
Ability to travel and work overtime may be required
