Job Description

Amazon has a global presence, and some national and international travel will be necessary. Support could consist of working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages.

This role could be based in either Seattle WA, Herndon VA or Austin TX.

Responsibilities:
· Lead the assessment of carbon impact for each element of AWS’s next gen data center design.
· Research new designs, technologies, and materials that can reduce carbon intensity within AWS data centers.
· Collaborate with AWS Sustainability to develop and execute programs to reduce carbon intensity throughout the life cycle of AWS data centers and meet AWS’s carbon reduction goals.
· Build trust and relationships with teams across AWS: Sustainability, Finance, Public Policy, and other Engineering and Infrastructure teams.
· Collaborate with AWS Data Center Delivery, Design Engineering, Procurement and Construction to ensure ongoing mechanisms in delivering capacity have AWS Sustainability goals and matrices incorporated.
· Develop best practices (design & operations) for reducing carbon intensity across AWS’s global Regions.
· Communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with colleagues and business partners with a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
· Integrate lower carbon options into the Basis of Design (BoD) for current and next-gen data center design.
· Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, and reports.
· Capture requirements and turn aspirational goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications

Job Specification

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Energy Systems or similar
· 7+ years Data Center experience
· Experience calculating carbon footprint and identifying ways to offset
· 5+ years Data Center Design & Construction Management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Professional Engineering License
· Master’s Degree in Engineering
· LEED certification experience
· 10+ years of professional experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and facility maintenance
· Project / technical program management experience
· Experience working with stakeholders across both technical and business functions
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction
· Experience obtaining, managing, and analyzing carbon data
· Experience leading sustainable / net zero building programs
· Direct experience with equipment procurement
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
