General Description

The Clinical Consultants renders opinions concerning patient diagnosis, treatment, and management of care following the results of a molecular genetic test. They must be qualified to consult with and render opinions to the laboratory's patients and clients concerning the results of the test.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

• Experienced in Clinical genetic/ genomic/ next generation sequencing-based testing, including whole exome and whole genome analyses.
• Review and interpret Molecular Genetics reports in a high-volume testing environment
• Troubleshoot and investigate laboratory testing issues and be actively involved in the solutions to maintain a high quality Molecular Genetic laboratory.
• Participate in new test development and validation as needed
• Available to provide consultation to the laboratory’s staff and clients.
• Available to assist the laboratory’s clients in ensuring that the ordered tests are appropriate to meet the clinical expectations.
• Is available for consultation and communication with the laboratory’s clients on matters related to the quality of reported test results and their interpretation concerning specific patient conditions.
• Ensures that reports of test results include pertinent information required for specific patient interpretation.

Required Licensure

The clinical consultant must be qualified as a laboratory director or be a doctor of medicine in the specialty of molecular genetics. They must also be licensed in the State in which the laboratory is located.
