The Position
Our client is seeking to fill a Staff Accountant role in the greater Houston, TX market. The position is responsible for performing senior-level oversight of the day-to-day Accounting functions. Responsible to act as a supervisor of the month-end close procedures while adhering to strict deadlines.
The opportunity has a generous salary of up to $75K and excellent benefits package.
Staff Accountant responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and reconciling assigned accounts, potentially including prepaid and other assets as well as accruals and other liabilities.
- Reconciling and balancing accounts payable and accounts receivable monthly.
- Reconciling sub-ledgers to general ledger account balances.
- Assisting in the preparation activities of Monthly amp; Quarterly Sales Tax Returns.
- Assisting Accounts Payables staff when necessary.
- Processing ACH payments.
- Reconciling inter-company accounts as assigned and submitting payment requests.
- Supporting the monthly close process by preparing journal entries and maintaining accurate account reconciliations in a timely manner.
- Reconciling all bank accounts as part of the month-end closing process.
- Supporting the budget process and development of departmental budgets to control costs and find savings opportunities.
- Supporting the quarterly and annual audit process and preparing necessary schedules, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Developing and implementing accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
- Protecting the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred; Advanced and/or specialty degrees/certifications are a plus.
- Three or more years of relevant GL accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB regulations.
- Must have effective communication (verbal, written, and listening) skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced deadline environment while managing multiple tasks.
- Proficient with ERP systems and accounting software.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Advanced spreadsheet proficiency Pivot Tables amp; VLOOKUP.
- Skill in analyzing and interpreting financial data.
- A high degree of accuracy in working with large amounts of data.
- Must assume responsibility for the timeliness of work completion and perform to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
