Director of Legal Business Affairs

The Legal amp; Business Affairs Director (US) will provide general legal support to Moonbug in the US. This includes legal production support and other general commercial work. He or she will also provide support to the General Counsel in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the day-to-day legal and business affairs lawyer for Moonbug US
• Draft and negotiate all US amp; Canadian production deals.
• Review and advise on existing licensing agreements and other contract related matters
• Provide strategic business and legal affairs guidance and support to the Moonbug creative and production team.
• Work cross-functionally with a broad range of departments to implement Moonbug legal policies and procedures.
• Train and develop the production teams to ensure compliance with production checklist and contracts.
• Develop and build production templates and forms.
• Liaise with outside counsel, where appropriate.

Requirements

Skills:

• JD and must be a member of the California Bar.
• High-level legal production experience with animated feature films and/or animated television.
• Comprehensive knowledge of contract law and IP rights, as well as a mastered capability for legal analysis and reasoning, is required.
• Strong drafting skills.
• Proven negotiation skills with the ability to deliver both proper legal protection to the company and excellent commercial results.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels within the company.
• Ability to lead by example and develop a strong, cohesive, technically excellent, commercially astute and well-motivated group of lawyers.
• Clear and concise oral and written communicator able to explain complex concepts in a way that engages the key stakeholders.
• Well organised and attention to detail: this role requires focus and energy to ensure that nothing falls between the cracks.

Knowledge:

• Experience of production legal and business affairs.
• Knowledge of kids media and animation world.

• Experience and a deep understanding of the most complex affiliate deals is essential.
• Good commercial knowledge essential must have a deep understanding of the impact that affiliate/new media deals potentially have on other revenue streams so as to involve other parts of the business as appropriate.

• Excellent commercial understanding and ability to negotiate and draft transactional documents.
• Strong general contract law expertise and commercial common sense. Ability to lead on the negotiation of key commercial agreements and supervise a team undertaking a wide range of commercial agreements.
