Job Description

Plexium Inc. is a Pharmaceutical startup focused on the development of miniaturized drug discovery platform availing an assessment of millions of drugs on a micro-engineered cell assay device: DELPhe. With our state-of-the-art DELPhe platform we can screen millions of DNA-encoded small-molecule libraries in picoliter to nanoliter volumes. Our technology is aspired to broaden the end-user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis of diseases, especially cancers including small cell lung and breast tumors.

This role will be with manufacturing organization in process optimization for manufacturing, continuous improvement, assembly of the fabricated device and timely delivery of such devices to upstream internal customers. This role will also be responsible to assist in streamlining manufacturing and documentation of device database, engineering change management, and other high priority tasks related to cross-functional areas and cross-functional teams.

We are seeking a Engineering professional to be part of our engineering team. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of engineering and bioengineering/biochemistry area, with unique expertise in manufacturing and Quality Assurance.

Requirements

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in Manufacturing process development of in-vitro assay devices developed for cellular assays and drug screening.
  • Assist in developing Quality control procedures and plans for the manufacturing of assay devices.
  • Provide opinions on manufacturing control plans and be able to provide understanding on process behavior.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting methods such as root cause analysis, and Corrective and preventive actions.
  • Performs bench assembly/pressure or fluidic test on In vitro drug screening/ cell assay microfluidic devices
  • Following detailed methods of a sequence of operations to ensure documented and controlled processes are followed
  • Knowledge with wet-lab operations, such as working with pipettes, storage buffer solutions, cell culture media, centrifuges, manual counters for cells/ particles, and manual/automated microscopes.
  • Operate machines and production equipment safely and following instructions
  • Strong hand/finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination while using a variety of hand tools, with the ability to sit or stand at a workbench for extended periods to complete work
  • Perform reprocessing of subassemblies as directed by manufacturing engineers.
  • Assure components/parts/documents comply with quality specifications before handing over to the next step in process
  • Reporting on the assembly/ device / process performances in standup meetings
  • Participating in projects as a team member in the development of skills, talents, and teamwork, to support improvement projects

  • Qualification prerequisites:

    • BS degree in engineering/bioengineering/ biology/ chemistry discipline and minimum 2+ years of work experience in the engineering, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry or academics.
    • Experience with in-vitro diagnostic devices or microfluidics is a plus.

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Minimum understanding or knowledge of principles used in: Bioengineering, mammalian cell assay, and in-vitro diagnostic.
  • Minimum understanding of adhesives, plastics, solvent bonding, or various plastic bonding methods.
  • Minimum knowledge or desire to learn the nature of chemicals, solvents, hazard associate with them and their use
  • Strong hands-on experience with medical device integration and testing. Comfortable working in a wet-bench lab.
  • Detail-oriented and good documentation skills.
  • Demonstrating the Professional Behaviors, treating all team members with respect and valuing their feedback

  • May assist in the training of employees with less experience
  • The ability to work overtime if required
  • Physical Requirements: this position requires the ability to move continuously to efficiently get to other work areas, frequent seating, standing and operating electromechanical and pneumatic, laser, and microwave machines, ability to reach and ability to use fine manipulation skills.
