Job Description

Plexium is an exciting pharmaceutical company straddling ultra-high-throughput chemical synthesis techniques with even higher throughput cell based assays. We apply these techniques to uncover design principles and identify chemical matter that can modulate classically undruggable targets via protein degradation.

We are seeking a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to be part our Discovery Chemistry team. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and small-molecule drug development. The Scientist’s research will be divided between two main projects:

(1) design, validate, perform and QC solid-phase synthesis approaches to deliver libraries for biological assays, as well as for engineering and assay development teams; chemistries will include (but not be limited to) click reactions, use of photocleavable linkers, complex multi-step synthesis on beads to enable high-throughput synthesis, transition-metal chemistry, etc.

(2) SAR-driven solution-based medicinal chemistry projects, primarily in oncology, immunology, and CNS disorder research areas. As new projects advance, the scope and breadth of this research may change, including optimization for oral bio availability and blood-brain barrier penetrance

Requirements

- BS or MS degree in medicinal chemistry or a related field with gt; 5 years research experience

- At least 3 years of work experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry

- The ability to independently design, perform, analyze and optimize multi-step synthesis of drug-like small molecules

- Purify and characterize organic compounds using LCMS and NMR

- Design and perform library syntheses on solid-support beads for biological testing

- Familiarity with use of databases, various software for chemistry (SciFinder, Reaxys, Star-Drop, etc.) and electronic notebooks a plus

Soft skills include highly motivated and strong team player, willing to learn, with a high degree of independence, innovative and critical thinking, flexible to adapt to changing projects and work assignments, excellent time management, organizational skills and strong communication skills, both written and oral. The up-to-date and complete upkeep of an electronic notebook is a must.

Benefits

- Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage

- 401K

- Generous vacation policy

- Stock options
