Job Description

Plexium is a San Diego-based drug discovery company that is focused on developing targeted protein degradation agents for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. We work at the intersection of engineering, chemistry, and biology, utilizing DNA-encoded libraries (DELs) and the richness of phenotypic assays to explore new frontiers in drug discovery. Plexium has an open work environment with a positive, friendly, and collaborative culture. We are committed to fostering innovation by removing barriers between departments and disciplines and supporting the growth and development of our team members.

Plexium’s biology group is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the discovery of novel targeted protein degradation therapeutics. The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of cancer biology and experience with the characterization of small molecule inhibitors in various cell-based assays. This is a hands-on position that requires an ability to be productive in a rapidly evolving environment. Responsibilities include target validation and mechanism of action studies, development of disease hypotheses, and supporting lead optimization. The successful candidate will be an independent and motivated team player that is able to work closely with others to solve complex problems. Previous industry experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • PhD in cellular, molecular or cancer biology or related field, with relevant scientific experience in cancer biology and 1+ year of industry experience (small molecule drug discovery preferred)
  • Ability to independently design, plan, execute and interpret experiments
  • Expertise in tissue culture techniques, western blot analysis, stable cell line generation, proliferation/signaling assays and multi-color flow cytometry
  • Experience with cellular mechanisms and signaling pathways regulating cancer cell growth
  • Experience with protein degradation by the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) preferred
  • Expertise in target identification/validation using small-molecule inhibitors and/or genetic manipulation (si/shRNA, CRISPR)
  • Proven track record of successful scientific accomplishments, presentations and/or peer reviewed publications
  • Outstanding problem solving, troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • An ability to be productive and successful in a fast-paced work environment

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage
  • 401K
  • Generous vacation policy
  • Stock options
