Job Description

Plexium is a privately held biotechnology company headquartered in San Diego, CA that is focused on developing targeted protein degradation agents for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. Plexium’s biology group is seeking a highly motivated immune oncologist to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the discovery of novel targeted protein degradation therapeutics.

The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of immune cell biology and extensive experience with in vitro functional characterization of NK and T cells. This is a hands-on position that requires an ability to be productive in a rapidly evolving environment. Responsibilities include the design and execution of mechanism of action studies as well as supervising research associates. The candidate will participate on project teams to establish and influence project strategy and planning, provide scientific insight, and establish capabilities to support our internal programs. The successful candidate will be an independent and motivated team player that is able to work closely with others to solve complex problems. Previous industry experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • PhD with at least 2+ years of industry experience in the fields of cancer biology or immunology
  • Ability to independently design, plan, execute and interpret experiments
  • Experience with tumor associated immune cell-based functional assays (activation, differentiation, proliferation, suppression, target cell killing), cytokine analysis, primary cell isolation, basic molecular biology (ELISA, qRT-PCR, western blot) and tissue culture techniques
  • Expertise in multi-color flow cytometry and high dimension analysis software
  • Strong track record in target identification/validation using small-molecule inhibitors and/or genetic manipulation (shRNA, CRISPR)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret genome wide RNA Seq and proteomics datasets
  • A thorough knowledge of the molecular pathways involved in the activation of the tumor immune response
  • Proven track record of successful scientific accomplishments, presentations and/or peer reviewed publications
  • Outstanding problem solving, troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • An ability to be productive and successful in a fast paced work environment
