Job Description

The Cash team is responsible for PayJoy's two end-user products: PayJoy Cash and PayJoy Shrink Wrap. Both apps enable a completely self-serve loan application process for personal loans (Cash) and phone financing (Shrink Wrap). As there is no sales clerk around to provide support during the application process we have a strong focus on user experience and ease of use.

Cash was launched in 2020 and is growing quickly. Shrink Wrap is still in the pilot phase - with some neat potential before it. We have a lot of exciting work ahead of us and are looking for Full Stack engineers at all levels of experience.

As a core member of the team you will work up and down the tech stack building out server end points and client-side, Angular-based user experience. Our goal is to build out our platform into a global solution providing new financial options to millions of users. To get there we'll need smart solutions across a mountain of technical challenges. How can we reuse as much code as possible between both products without confining either? How do we scale up runtime performance while increasing overall reliability? Can we build a platform to rapidly iterate and improve our UI and user experience? How do we work with Data Science to enable more attractive lending products? And many more.

We’re looking for someone with a collaborative spirit who likes to get things done. Someone who is excited by the breadth of challenges before us, and comfortable balancing competing priorities. You’ll get to learn from the challenges in front of you as well as from your talented colleagues.

Location: currently Boston, but we're excited to talk to US-based remote-only candidates!

Currently based in Boston, our team, like many others, has been working remotely (and successfully!) for almost a year. Even pre-COVID we worked closely with our Sales and Operations teams in Mexico, as well as our Engineering and Product colleagues in San Francisco. All of this has gotten us to seriously consider making the team fully-remote going forward. No decision has been made - and currently we are still a Boston-based team - however if you're unable to relocate to Boston and this role interests you, we'd love to talk!

Responsibilities
  • Own broad sections of the design, implementation, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of our server-side as well as client-side code.
  • Our stack is PHP, MySQL, Ionic/Cordova (specifically: Typescript and Angular2+), and native Android - but familiarity with specific languages or frameworks is not a requirement! If you're comfortable with the concepts, we can ramp you up on language and framework details.
  • Integrate functional modules from other global engineering teams, and collaborate with them to improve shared areas of code
  • Work with our partner teams in Business, Product, Operations, and Risk to align on priorities and timelines - and keep all stakeholders up to date on any plan changes or new developments

Requirements

  • Anywhere from 3 to 15 or more years of software development experience - we'll work with you during the interview process to figure out what role would be right for you
  • Experience writing server-side code (for example: PHP, Python, Ruby, Node, Java, etc.)
  • Experience working with component-based Javascript web frameworks (for example: Angular2+, React, Vue, etc.)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English

Benefits

  • Company-funded health, dental, and vision insurance for employee and immediate family
  • Company-funded employee life and disability insurance
  • 401k contribution
  • 10 company holidays; 15 days vacation (20 at 3rd year); unlimited sick leave
  • Annual fitness benefit ($500); professional development benefit ($2000); and international travel benefit ($2000)
  • Commuter benefit
  • Headphone benefit
