Job Description

A cancer diagnosis is something no one wants to hear. Too often, cancer is detected late, once it has spread and treatment options are limited. But cancer can be more effectively treated with an intent to cure if caught in the earlier stages. At Thrive, an Exact Sciences Company, our goal is to transform this outlook: to catch cancer earlier, including several with no screening options today, to improve patient outcomes. We are developing a blood-based test that is designed to be affordable and utilized as part of routine medical care to detect multiple types of cancer at earlier stages. Our approach goes beyond a cancer diagnosis. The RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated Director to join our Product Solutions team in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading protein-based analytical assay development in support of developing impactful new diagnostic assays. The Director will be a lead for internal and outsourced projects and collaborate with team members on a cross-functional basis. This position will play a critical role in driving protein biomarker focused assay development.Major Responsibilities· Lead the development of Protein biomarker assay (e.g., immunoassays) as part of earlier detection product and support the transfer of these assays to the clinical testing laboratories.· Mentor and develop a team and improve staff capabilities at both our Baltimore and Cambridge sites.· Lead the evaluation assessment of reagents sources, and immunoassay conditions on multiple sample types (plasma, serum).· Evaluation of novel protein biomarker and protein detection technologies.· Manage protein product development through proof-of-concept, feasibility, development, verification, and validation in regulated environments.· Continuously drive research amp; development through internal and external collaborations related to protein discovery and technology evaluation
Requirements and Qualifications· PhD in cell/molecular biology, immunology, cancer biology, or a related discipline.· 8+ years of experience working in an academic or industry lab, with a proven track record of hands-on experience working successfully with clinical samples.· Experience in developing diagnostic immunoassay methods is required.· Experience with other protein detection technologies, such as mass spec preferred.· A proven ability to troubleshoot technical and scientific issues, both individually and as part of a team.· Excellent collaboration, organizational and documentation skills.· Strong communication skills for the purpose of effective contribution to multi-site collaborations including within the company and with external vendors, CROs, and biopharma.· Experience managing and mentoring direct reports and working with external vendors/CROs is a plus.Thrive Earlier Detection is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any classification protected by federal, state, or local law.
