Spotify is now hiring an Indirect Tax Analyst to join our Indirect Tax Team, a part of the Spotify Global Tax Team. We are a team of highly skilled and dedicated colleagues, and we are looking for a candidate that enjoys working in a constantly evolving environment and strive to improve the workflow and processes. You are detailed oriented with strong analytical skills and you enjoy handling multiple engagements simultaneously. In your day to day, you will be involved in all aspects of indirect tax compliance obligations in the US and Canada across various Spotify businesses. The role is based in our New York office and will report to the Indirect Tax Manager. Come join the band!What you'll do:
- Responsible for the accurate and timely filing of all US and Canada indirect tax compliance including sales amp; use, gross receipts, and property tax to ensure timely, accurate reporting and remittance.
- Work closely with third-party global compliance partners to ensure accurate and complete information is provided in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly accruals, reconciliations and journal entries.
- Manage the tax calendar for all indirect tax filing obligations.
- Support multi-state tax audits, including data collection for timely responses to information requests.
- Assist in the calculation and documentation of the IAS 37 tax reserve.
- Keep updated on the development of Indirect Taxes rules and regulations in the US and Canada where Spotify is conducting business.
- Support business expansion needs, including research on tax requirements and obligations in new markets and obtaining new tax registrations and licensees.
- Identify how Spotify can use technology and develop tools to make compliance scalable.
- Although this role is focused on compliance and data, you will be engaged in many different indirect tax matters. You will cover indirect tax in all Spotify’s US and Canadian tax jurisdictions.
Who you are:
- Minimum of 2-3+ years of tax related work experience in industry and/or Big 4.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; CPA preferred.
- Excellent general accounting/finance skills and experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, in order to distil complex tax concepts into easily comprehensible subject matter for non-tax colleagues.
- Excellent tax research ability using databases such as RIA, Checkpoint amp; CCH.
- Experience with financial systems (ERP, consolidation tools and management reporting tools) is a plus.
- Strong project management skills, attention to detail, ability to drive work and process improvements.
- Self-starter, capable of working independently with strong initiative and flexibility.
- Intellectually curious and eager to learn and develop every day.
