Role

Tenaya has lab operations in multiple locations. The Sr. Laboratory Operations Manager plays a vital role in the overall safety and efficient functioning of the laboratory and is responsible for managing the daily operations of the lab. The Lab Manager takes responsibility for all aspects of the lab, including but not limited to: instruments/equipment, users of the lab, and supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab Safety and Compliance

  • Be familiar with the regulatory requirements specific to the lab and work to ensure that lab personnel are trained in and compliant with EHamp;S standards
  • Update and maintain the Lab Safety Manuals and the SDS records
  • Train new staff in Tenaya safety practices and procedures
  • Maintain chemical inventory
  • Assist with Lab Inspections and safety meetings

Laboratory Operation

  • Establish and improve lab operation procedures and processes across multiple Tenaya facilities by anticipating and addressing issues as they arise
  • Trouble-shooting lab equipment
  • Lead Lab Operations meetings
  • Manage procurement, receiving, and stocking of inventory including but not limited to; consumables, common chemicals, PPE, and lab equipment, as well as actively overseeing laboratory supply inventory
  • Oversee ULS lab services including setting/updating lab supply par levels, glass wash and autoclave
  • Oversee and maintain critical equipment monitoring system
  • Oversee upkeep of an orderly lab space and delegate lab maintenance duties to research personnel
  • Work with Purchasing to plan for receipt and installation of new equipment
  • Facilitate training on the correct use of new lab equipment or use of lab equipment by new research staff
  • Establish and maintain a pipette calibration program.
  • Manage Shipping and Receiving operations including updating orders in Point Purchasing
  • Coordinate hazardous waste disposal
  • Maintain capital equipment inventory and locations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience working in a laboratory setting
  • Experience with equipment maintenance (pipettes, freezers, incubators, centrifuges, plate, etc.)
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task, think critically and work both independently and within teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and communication skills, documentation, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail, safety, and good laboratory practices
