The CZ Biohub Mass Spectrometry Platform studies proteins and small molecules in the human body that influence many aspects of health, from nutrition and immune function to drug metabolism. New initiatives spanning the areas of infectious disease, cancer immunology, and single-cell proteomics demand motivated researchers to contribute their hard work and creativity to our project.

Opportunity

We are currently seeking an outstanding Research Scientist to join our exceptional and highly collaborative team. This is an opportunity to apply a strong technical background to exciting interdisciplinary projects that would be difficult to take on in a traditional academic setting. The successful candidate will spearhead mass spectrometry-based method development and instrument optimization. They will further curate large data sets collected with high-throughput automation systems develop ways in which these data can be integrated into a growing multi-omic knowledgebase. The majority of work will be performed on the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, but this position will also require infrequent visits to the Mission Bay campus in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve LC-MS infrastructure
• Optimize and automate high-throughput proteomic sample preparation methods
• Spearhead team-based projects with the goal of integrating proteomic data with metabolomics, single-cell RNAseq, and microscopy
• Author publications
• Mentor junior colleagues
• Perform creative and incisive data analyses and present findings in internal and external seminars

Requirements

• 3+ years experience operating state-of-the-art mass spectrometers (Thermo tribrid, Bruker timsTOF-pro, etc)
• 3+ years experience operating nano-flow HPLCs coupled to the above mass spectrometers
• PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Immunology, Virology, or related field. Applicants with Bachelors/Masters degrees in these fields and exceptional work experience exceeding the above may also be considered.
• Standard molecular biology skills
• Team-oriented with excellent oral and written skills
• Track record of meticulous laboratory experiment documentation

Desired Experience

• Fluency in Python programming language
• Experience with relational databases
• Experience with cell culture
• Training in Immunology, physiology, systems biology, or similar fields
• Experience building metabolomics experiments and analyzing their results
