The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Account Executive to join our Healthcare practice in Washington, D.C. This position will be part of the fast-growing BCW Healthcare Policy team, working across multiple verticals such as health and hospital systems, insurance, pharmaceutical and health equity, and across multiple disciplines, including public affairs, communications, and third-party engagement.

You will be engaged in supporting our client’s public affairs and policy goals through trade and national media relations, executive visibility, though leadership, panels and conferences. In this highly visible team role you will also take part in efforts to build the overall service offering and participate in business development. The ideal Communications candidate will have a solid overall understanding of the DC public affairs and policy space in addition to deep interest and familiarity with the Healthcare industry coupled with the ability to draft strategic materials for clients, manage projects and think both strategically and tactically.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop knowledge of client verticals, business goals and overall competitive landscape through trade publications and desktop research
  • Write and edit integrated materials including pitch letters, news releases, social and digital content, blogs, backgrounders, fact sheets, bios
  • Create and maintain media lists, handle routine media inquiries and pitch client messaging
  • Monitor several outlets a day and be able to differentiate between what is newsworthy to give constructive and well-thought-out client recommendations
  • Develop a vast knowledge of the media that influences your client’s customers while building relationships with key media outlets
  • Develop relationships with external audiences (media, third-party constituencies, etc.) to pitch and convey the Client stories
  • Secure media interviews and coordinate specific events and promotions for the Clients
  • Be comfortable with digital media tools and metrics and utilize social networking formats to reach specific audiences
  • Interface with clients, respond effectively to client questions and contribute in client meetings all under the supervision of senior managers
  • Assist in account administration duties such as billing and activity reports
  • Proficiency with Microsoft, PowerPoint and Excel as well as social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram)

Requirements:

  • Between 3-5 years of communications experience with an understanding and interest in the Healthcare and/or science arena from a policy perspective
  • Have a track record of media relations success with trade publications, national print/broadcast/digital outlets
  • A broad understanding of the techniques of a professional services/consultancy firm, journalism, public relations, communications or related field
  • Be passionate about telling the client story and has a proven track record of success positioning large clients with top tier media
  • Strong writing and editing background
  • Understanding of the integration of social media + traditional media
  • Ability to take ownership of a program and work with autonomy
  • Experience using media monitoring tools (Cision, Radian6, Gorkana, Vocu
