The Opportunity:
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with significant pharmaceutical industry experience to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be a member of the Lead Discovery team and will be responsible for crystallography support of the IDEAYA internal drug discovery pipeline. The scientist will be primarily responsible for determination of protein structures by crystallography to guide medicinal chemistry and advance the understanding of mechanism of action of portfolio targets. There is opportunity to have high value impact in real time in ongoing projects as well as chart the future of our research efforts by capitalizing on structural insights (e.g., MOA, binding modes, degrons). The person will closely interface with biophysics, chemistry, biology, and CADD scientists working on our projects. As a member of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, this person will collaborate with a broad group of scientists within IDEAYA as well as external collaborators. The scientist will communicate results in cross-functional teams, across several groups within the organization, contributing to its culture of engagement and scientific rigor.
The ideal candidate will be a passionate person who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment contributing to the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents for cancer patients with impactful structural biology insights.
Requirements
AKA what you’ll bring
- PhD with 7+ years’ experience in structural biology or related field in industrial drug discovery setting.
- Proficiency, hands-on expertise, and extensive knowledge with all aspects of the gene-to-structure process.
- Extensive experience in structure-based drug design (SBDD) utilizing X-ray crystallography.
- Expertise with crystallization of protein-small molecule complexes, crystal manipulation; remote synchrotron data collection; data processing using Mosflm, HKL2000/XDS/autoPROC, structure solution (Phenix/Phaser/MolRep/AMoRe or similar software), building (Coot) and refinement (Phenix, Buster, RefMac).
- Thorough knowledge of ligand/protein interactions and molecular recognition, lead optimization, and drug-like/physicochemical properties of pre-clinical small molecule candidates.
- Demonstrated scientific ability and track record of achievement through publications and presentations.
- Experience with scientific programming (Unix/Python) preferred.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency, research staff management, scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thought.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time with respect to projects and daily activities.
- Detail-oriented with ability to maintain comprehensive, up-to-date records of experimental methods, results, and observations with high level of accuracy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Flexibility within a rapidly changing environment.
- Proven ability to work in a goal and team-oriented setting. Self-motivated and capacity to perform duties with a sense of urgency to meet project timelines.
