Job Description

Job Summary

The Director of People Operations is responsible for all HR department functions including the design, implementation and execution of the human resources strategy to support the business and people goals. The Director of People Operations spans a broad range of responsibilities including workforce planning, full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, employee development and training, compensation, benefits, wellness and leaves of absence. Acts as a liaison and advisor to management and employees.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Build the people strategy: Work with executives and leadership to understand strategic and operational objectives and develop organizational models and hiring plans to support goals

  • Focus on belonging: Own internal diversity and belonging efforts, to span everything from policy to training to bonding and educational efforts.
  • Hire: Refine recruiting processes and deliver high caliber hires, through a combination of internal work and consultants.

    • Administer performance evaluation process as well as organizational wage and salary programs.

    • Design, oversee and manage HR programs such as service awards, employee recognition, and corporate social responsibility.
  • Help our employees grow and develop: Design, develop, and implement training and organizational development initiatives.
  • Communicate: Own regular company updates and one off communications related to initiatives or organizational changes.
  • Measure what matters: Utilize HRIS to proactively monitor staffing, employment activity, turnover and other HR metrics
  • Policy and process development:
    • Set up policies and processes to ensure seamless Fellow operations. This includes but is not limited to the Employee Handbook, onboarding new hires and performance management.
  • Handle HR operations:
    • Administer employee health and welfare benefits and 401(k) Plan.
    • Manage all workers' compensation claims management initiatives to ensure excellence in safety performance and claims resolution to mitigate organization exposure to associated costs.
    • Provide coaching and counseling on issues related to employee relations; including providing guidance around fair and legal resolutions, preparation of corrective action documents, performance management, investigations, and terminations.
    • Consult with legal counsel on required matters as warranted.
    • Develop employee management system and maintain all employee files in compliance with Company guidelines and local regulations
    • Act as the primary resource for COVID-19 issues.


Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in business or a related field, preferably with a concentration in Human Resources

  • 10+ years’ HR generalist experience with at least 3 years in a management level position
  • HR Certification highly preferred (SPHR, PHR-CA, SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP)
  • In-depth working knowledge of Federal and California state, county and local employment laws and governmental regulations.
  • Previous experience as a HR leader for a California based employer.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills and ability to interact at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to creatively develop and adapt HR offerings that deliver on the unique needs of the organization while avoiding unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have excellent organizational, project management, and change management skills and be able to manage multiple priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, including writing skills and the ability to draft effective employee communications.
  • Must be a proactive problem solver, adept at working in a team-oriented and highly-collaborative environment, but also able to function effectively working independently.
