Vivint’s Core Apps team is responsible for the core of Vivint’s mobile appsthe information architecture, shared services (e.g. user roles and permissions), and features that bring all Vivint products together to create magical app experiences for the smart home consumer (e.g. custom actions, activity feed, etc.). We are responsible for the app as both a product and a platform, so our customers are both end consumers, and other Vivint product teams.

Vivint and our Core Apps team is looking for a dynamic Lead UX Designer to partner with product and engineering to drive and deliver key strategic experiences in our mobile apps. The ideal candidate.

  • Is open-minded, able to learn quickly, communicate clearly, and have the capacity to get things done even when the task is less defined
  • Is team focused, enjoys collaborating with other designers, product managers, and engineers to deliver experiences that provide everyday value to consumers
  • Can quickly prototype ideas to receive regular feedback on their design process
  • Is solution-minded, and confident they can solve any problem that's handed to them

The day-to-day

  • Work with the Product, Engineering and Design teams to distill complicated problems into simple, minimal solutions in a mobile app environment
  • Partner with the product manager to discover, define, and deliver mission critical experiences that fuel subscriber growth and enable customers to create the world's most convenient smart homes
  • As a player/coach, you’ll help support a delivery team as well as coach and mentor other designers on your team
  • Work with product and tech leads to build and support a world-class product team culture within Core Apps
  • Rapidly iterate product concepts through user testing, high fidelity mocks amp; prototypes, user journey maps, storyboards, and more.
  • Advocate for the customer through research, insights, and regular contact with our customer-base
  • Work closely with product management and engineering teams to implement designs
  • Maintain and continuously improve Vivint’s mobile app component library, clearly documenting patterns and ensuring consistent implementation of the system throughout our apps
  • Use Sketch and other modern design tools to design, prototype, and communicate your ideas clearly, get rapid feedback, and ensure a high degree of execution on final solutions.
  • Think strategically about Vivint’s mobile apps, our business, and our Smart Home customers.

Requirements

  • Proven history of designing consumer-facing mobile app experiences that delight customers and solve real business problems
  • Expertise in user experience, interaction design, and building prototypes for a consumer facing product
  • Ability to balance true creativity, the needs of the business, and what is best for our users and community
  • Solid working knowledge of the latest design tools, especially Sketch and InVision. ProtoPie or other event-based prototyping tool (e.g. Framer) a plus.
  • Ability to quickly prototype your ideas, bringing interactions to life
  • Experience planning and running user research practices
  • A love for making things beautiful and usable
  • A team player who is highly collaborative
  • Previous management experience with a playbook of ways to motivate and inspire designers
