Epidemiologists are expected to provide the best methodological approaches to Babylon’s daily research questions, which demands a deep knowledge of predictive and preventive medicine concepts as well as technical expertise in epidemiology.

Epidemiologists at Babylon collaborate with doctors and research scientists in order to build products which will provide the most accurate, reliable and personalised healthcare to everyone.Key Responsibilities:
  • Intensive literature search, data collection and validation of disease and risk factor data to provide locally appropriate epidemiological parameters to Babylon’smodels
  • Analysis of large datasets in R to quantify the prevalence and incidence of risk factors and diseases and causal associations between risk factors and diseases
  • Manipulation of collected data using statistics packages and Google Sheets/Excel
  • Consultation with local clinicians to tailor the content of models to the local regional context
  • Conducting routine management activities within the team
  • Perform any other duties corresponding to the job position and skills in line with company needs
  • Ensuring that the epidemiologist’s own work and that of project teams meets relevant quality standards under the supervision of a Senior Epidemiologist/Epidemiology Lead
  • Communicate regularly regarding your progress with your line manager
Key Skills Required:
  • Relevant (academic or industry) experience in epidemiological and statistical methodology with a special focus on observational research (e.g. understanding of sampling, representativeness, design, causality, bias, statistical modelling, data analysis, etc)
  • Experience performing systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses (e.g. search engines, search strings, assessment quality of the studies, data extraction, etc)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Competency using R statistical package
  • Ability to meet short deadlines with high quality deliverables

Qualifications and Experience- Essential:
  • An advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in epidemiology or public health (with a focus and previous experience in epidemiological methods)
  • Relevant (academic or industry) experience in epidemiological and statistical methods and concepts with a special focus on observational research (e.g. sampling, representativeness, design, causality, bias, statistical modelling, data analysis, etc.)
  • Experience performing systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses (e.g. search engines, search strings, assessment quality of the studies, data extraction, etc.)
  • Experience conducting high-quality epidemiological research
  • Experience with R
Desirable:
  • PhD in a related field
  • Familiarity with global public health concepts and needs (e.g. African and Asian countries)
  • Ability to develop databases
  • Experience with Python
  • Relevant peer-review publications in indexed journals
  • Familiarity with AI algorithms and their use in health-tech
