The Role

Engineering leadership at Onfido is twofold:
1. In partnership with a Product Manager, you’ll be responsible for guiding your team to deliver on their mission and figuring out how to make that real - with the best balance of technical excellence, pace, rigour and customer value2. You’ll be responsible for guiding the growth, wellbeing and performance of a team of engineers

Data Verification Team
Onfido has three lines of business: Document, Biometrics and Data Verification. The Data Verification team's mission is to empower companies to verify their users frictionlessly, seamlessly and on a global scale. All of this using just their users' personal information (for example name, address, date of birth.).
This team owns the following products: Watchlist, Identity Databases and Right to Work verifications. Overall, these contribute to a significant portion of our company's revenue.
We are leveraging our own proprietary technology, as well as third-party APIs, to get our customers' users verified. The technical stack is varied, and ranges from Ruby, Elixir to Javascript and React.
This team is geographically distributed and fully cross-functional. We have software engineers, test engineers, data analysts and a product manager, spread across Albuquerque (USA) and London (UK). As an Engineering Lead for Data Verification, you will:

• Join a cross-functional team of Product and Backend engineers to help Onfido manage how we leverage third-party systems and databases to verify the identities of our end users.
• Use your strong background in software development (ideally backend) to both drive the technical strategy for your team as well as contribute code day to day. Take ownership of technical problems within your area and effectively prioritise impactful tech debt.
• Build a strong relationship with the product manager and partner with them in setting a strategic roadmap for your team focused on maximizing the impact on the wider company goals.
• Coach engineering team members and set appropriate goals for them in supporting their growth, motivation and performance.
• Use metrics to understand how your team delivers and operates software, and proactively seek out opportunities for improvement.
• Measure amp; improve the performance of your team while fostering a culture of psychological safety, feedback and continuous improvement on our agile ways of working and processes.
• Help engineers understand wider context and find opportunities to collaborate, both within and beyond the engineering group.

We use a lot of exciting technology. Our engineers are flexible about technology and pick the right tool for the job:- Python, Ruby and Elixir for our service code.- React and Redux for frontend work.- TensorFlow for Machine Learning / Computer Vision.- Kubernetes and Docker to package and run services.- AWS for underlying infrastructure.
