EMI is looking for a Boiler Tender whose primary responsibility is to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on one or more boilers to produce high-temperature water for use in an establishment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation.
- Fires boiler. Adjusts controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for high-temperature water.
- Maintain a log in which various aspects of boiler operation are recorded;
- Clean, oil, make minor repairs, or assist in repair to boiler equipment.
- Must be able to calibrate, operate, and interpret readings from a combustion analyzer to ensure efficient operation of boilers.
- Prepares work orders and cost materials estimates.
- Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- May assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques.
- Practice workplace safety.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work.

- Knowledge and proficiency of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial-grade HVAC equipment.

Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating equipment used in the installation, repair, and maintenance on HVAC equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and handling hazardous materials.
- Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: indoor air monitoring equipment and interpret resulting data; standards for design and construction; air conditioning and heating codes; hazards and safety precautions; and refrigerant handling and disposal.
- Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in the repair of HVAC equipment.
