Job Description
The Sensors Division focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging and EO/IR sensing. Within this role, we perform work at full system prototypes, experiment campaigns and technology component development. Particular development roles within the Sensors Division include RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, tracking/fusion, as well as real-time embedded processor implementation.
As a?Machine Learning Research Engineer Signal Processing, you will design and develop novel machine learning and signal processing algorithms for advanced sensor applications. Toward that end, you will actively collaborate with research engineers across STR, as well as with academic researchers and industry partners to develop practical and powerful machine learning solutions to radar, electronic warfare, sonar, SIGINT, hyperspectral imagine and IR Spectroscopy.
Responsibilities include:
- Design and implement innovative sensor exploitation and machine learning solutions to a range of sensor modalities
- Work with multi-disciplinary engineering teams on projects comprising algorithm and machine learning design, model and simulation, mission modeling, systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, integration and test
- Solve challenging problems across domains where limited measured training data is available using techniques such as transfer learning and domain adaptation
- Work with our customers to understand their needs, develop innovative solutions and present those solutions to technical and non-technical audiences
- Conduct or support research to develop and apply advanced machine learning algorithms and techniques to novel sensor concepts that address challenging national security problems
- Potential travel to customer meetings and/or data collections and experiments
Requirements
- Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
- PhD or MS degree with relevant experience in electrical engineering/signal processing, physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or related technical discipline
- Strong Matlab (or similar scientific computing) programming skills
- Motivated collaborator with internal and external teams
- Solid mathematical and analytical skills
- Desire for continual learning and interest in applying technical skills to new problem areas
Desired Qualifications
- Active Security Clearance at the Secret or Top Secret (TS) level
- Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets
- Experience with Python and C/C++
- Track record in written and oral communication to both technical and non-technical audiences
