Job Description

Generation Bio is a biotechnology company leading a new generation of gene therapy. With our proprietary re-dosable ceDNA technology, we are expanding the reach of gene therapy. At Generation Bio, our goal is to bring the life-saving benefits of gene therapy to more people, living with a broader range of diseases, in more places around the world. Our vision is to make the ravages of genetic disease as imaginary to the next generation as polio feels to children today.

SUMMARY:

Generation Bio seeks an energetic, versatile, and highly motivated Scientist to join the Platform Research group. The candidate will be part of teams responsible for developing novel therapeutic approaches for infectious diseases. This role will focus on planning and executing both in vitro and in vivo studies of our gene therapy platform to advance both the platform science and our growing pipeline of programs with a focus on viral diseases.

This work will include cross-functional research to optimize platform for infectious disease applications, identifying targets and designing therapeutic candidates, and leading the development and execution of experiments to evaluate efficacy, immune responses, host-pathogen interactions, and target protein characterization. The successful candidate will move seamlessly between managing in-vivo studies in our newly-opened ACF or with CROs and bench work to design/implement new assays in our state-of-the-art cell and molecular biology lab.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and perform experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to support multiple projects
  • Conduct in vitro experiments including cell culture maintenance, transfection, and expression analysis
  • Design and lead in vivo studies to assess target protein expression and antiviral activity
  • Develop and implement assays to quantify antibody and T-cell mediated immune responses to therapeutic constructs in vitro and in vivo
  • Run infection assays, including virus quantification and neutralization assays
  • Interface externally with collaborators, and in management of research performed by CRO(s)
  • Summarize studies in written reports and oral presentations
  • Review literature to identify relevant technology and targets in infectious disease research

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. with expertise in immunology, molecular/cell biology, or related field with 1-3 years of postgraduate experience preferred
  • Knowledge of virology, microbiology, and host-pathogen interactions is a plus
  • Expertise in cellular and molecular biology (ELISA, western blot, analysis of gene expression and viral replication by qPCR, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation). MSD and Octet experience is a plus
  • Experience in virology in vitro assays such as viral culture, neutralization and quantification assays
  • Experience with cell culture manipulation techniques (e.g., transfections, cell-based assays)
  • Excellent lab technique and the ability to work independently to design experiments and analyze, interpret, and present data
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to allow effective division of time between lab work, data analysis, and interaction with CRO(s)
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

POSITION: Full-Time, Exempt
