Job Description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Regulatory Affairs Lead Americas to join our regulation team, which works across both sides of the business. The successful candidate will lead on our regulation, policy and legislative efforts in the Americas.

Regulation is a major determinant of where Skyports can operate and the regulatory landscape is changing fast around the world.

From securing approvals for drone delivery operations in the US from the FAA and developing our relationships and informing the FAA’s burgeoning regulatory framework for air taxi infrastructure, to securing permits from city and state authorities for vertiport development and supporting our Americas commercial team identify and exploit new opportunities, this role is as varied as it is interesting.

Based in the US, with a preference for Washington DC, the role will involve domestic and international travel.

You will

  • Secure infrastructure and drone delivery permits and approvals from federal, state and local regulatory and legislative bodies.
  • Develop relationships with and exert influence on regulators, legislators and policy-makers at all levels to support Skyports’ reputation as an industry leader.
  • Research and develop a thorough understanding of the regulatory environment of target markets within individual jurisdictions in the wider region.
  • Play a leadership role in regulatory, industry standards and trade bodies within the region.
  • Contribute to commercial agreements, and funding and project applications.
  • Advise the business on all regulatory matters from proposed new aviation rules to standards development from the Americas perspective.
  • Produce influential, evidenced-based responses and submissions to government, regulator and standards body consultations, calls for evidence, RFIs.
  • Contribute to the development of internal documentation, e.g. operating manuals, ConOps and vertiport manuals to ensure Skyports is compliant with regulations.
  • Represent Skyports at meetings and events, including delivering presentations.
  • Report to our Head of Regulation based in the UK and work closely with our Head of Americas, who leads our business in the region.

Requirements

Essential

  • Someone who owns and takes responsibility for regulatory projects, working collaboratively with team members internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to plan, lead and manage complex projects and concurrent work-streams across multiple business functions, many with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to maximise the impact of our documentation, and to build strong networks and relationships.
  • Ability to influence regulators, legislators and policy-makers.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure our documentation meets all the necessary rules and regulations and is of the highest quality standard.
  • Ability to quickly master complex, technical issues.
  • Ability to problem solves on the fly; someone who can ask the questions that have not been asked and can find the answers too.
  • A strong interest in and commitment to help achieve the successful introduction of UAS and UAM solutions into mainstream society.
  • Being comfortable navigating through ambiguity as this is new industry and no one yet has all the answers.
  • Embraces opportunities to learn new skills and take on new tasks whenever they arise.
  • Embodies a safety-first approach.
  • Experience of working in a similar role in the Americas, particularly the US.
  • Flexibility to travel.
