Job Summary amp; Purpose

Tom’s Guide is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled writer to play a crucial role in our coverage of all things computing, including desktops, laptops, peripherals and software. This role will entail reviewing everything from MacBooks and gaming desktops to headsets and keyboards, while helping with updates to critical buying guides that help our readers find the best systems for their needs. The computing writer will also contribute news and feature articles on key laptops, tablets and PCs. If you’re passionate about all things computers with a strong editorial voice, this job is for you!

Key role responsibilities

  • Reviewing multiple computing products per week, with a focus on laptops, desktops and peripherals
  • Maintaining key computing buying guides, such as best Chromebooks, best tablets and more
  • Brainstorming and executing thoughtful analysis and opinion coverage to help Tom’s Guide stand out
  • Assisting with deals coverage, especially during critical shopping seasons

Requirements

Required skills and experience

  • A keen interest and understanding of computing and related products laptops, PCs, tablets and Chromebooks. We don’t expect you to be an expert initially, but you’ll grasp the challenge of becoming one very quickly.
  • Exceptional writing skills - from the ability to write snappy headlines to tight grammar control, through to the ability to choose just the right image to attract readers.
  • Ability to deliver content quickly and efficiently.
  • An interest in and understanding of analytical and SEO tools.
  • An interest in video and how it can be used to support written content
  • Self-motivation. The team is split across several offices and continents, so you’ll need to be able to work independently and be willing to attend meetings at other offices as required
  • A ruthless approach to success - you’ll be able to combine coming up with transformative ideas with a determined approach to ensure they are delivered
