Job Description

Hydrosat is a data analytics and satellite earth observation company leveraging thermal infrared and multi-spectral data to deliver insights into crop health, drought and wildfire risk, industrial activity, and defense situational awareness to government and commercial customers.

We are seeking a Payload Systems Engineering Lead to support the development of Hydrosat’s earth observation constellation. The team is responsible for system-level analysis, simulation, development, and operation of our novel earth observation system. This role will appeal to candidates that are looking to use their engineering skills to make an impact on the world in agriculture, climate, and public safety monitoring applications. The right candidate will be endlessly fascinated by technologies in thermal sensing, photography, science, systems engineering, and space operations. The position will be based in California.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the design, manufacturing, testing, and operation of new and advanced imaging systems
  • Support a multi-organizational System Engineering effort to develop an advanced earth observation satellite constellation
  • Develop and iterate on requirements for the mission and payload subsystems
  • Develop, review, and implement interface control documents and work with subsystem teams to ensure smooth integration
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors for review, procurement, and integration of the imaging payloads
  • Identify system and schedule risks during development and work with partners to mitigate
  • Develop and implement verification and validation plans for the imaging systems
  • Work with the ground segment team to define CONOPS and interfaces

Requirements

  • US Citizen or US Person
  • Technical background in imaging science and engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with space missions including space camera and optical systems
  • Strong first principles thinking and decision making
  • A passion for earth observation and its applications
  • Strong team player with demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive execution
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external teams to deliver capability to users
  • Experience with program lifecycle stages including design, assembly, integration and test, and flight operations
  • Experience using or developing software to analyze system performance
  • Familiarity with source control and project management tools
