Job Description

Kezar Life Sciences (NASDAQ: KZR), a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company located in South San Francisco, is seeking a Scientist or Senior Research Associate to join our team. Kezar is focused on small molecule drug discovery and development to target autoimmune/inflammatory disorders and cancer based on the biology of protein homeostasis. Our lead compound, KZR-616, a selective inhibitor of the immunoproteasome, is in early-stage clinical trials. In addition, we have multiple drug discovery programs targeting protein secretion to include multi-indication small molecule programs that take aim at known and novel therapeutic targets subject to protein homeostasis. This position provides an exciting opportunity for major scientific and strategic roles in the research and development of novel therapies for serious diseases.

The Scientist/SRA will play a key role in advancing novel therapeutic drug candidates for ongoing and emerging immuno-oncology programs. This hands-on position will be responsible for developing and executing proof of concept studies for novel target discovery and validation. In addition, the position will contribute to the development of pharmacodynamic biomarkers to support translational research. The candidate must have excellent problem solving, multitasking and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct high quality experiments in the area of immuno-oncology
  • Isolate and culture primary immune cells for immune profiling and functional assays
  • Develop and execute cellular assays to support proof of concept studies
  • Plan and implement relevant in vivo disease models and ex vivo studies
  • Support novel PD biomarker identification and development
  • Collaborate in multifunctional teams to accomplish research goals
  • Analyze and present data to cross-functional teams and external presentations and publications

Requirements

  • Ph.D. with a focus on immunology, cancer biology, or related area or equivalent years of relevant industry experience
  • Industry experience in immune-oncology highly desirable
  • Proficiency in a wide range of immunological techniques and assays is required
  • Extensive experience with multi-color flow cytometry to characterize immune cells is required
  • Broad understanding of drug discovery and development a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to work across functions in a collaborative environment
  • Innovative, self-motivated, and flexible to advance multiple projects under tight timelines and changing priorities
