Job Description
Online shopping has changed. Today’s eCommerce runs on selling products, not brands. SamCart is the first e-commerce platform built from the ground up for direct-to-consumer brands. By focusing on the product level, and not the store level, our customers can create beautiful sites that showcase their products, convert visitors into customers, and increase the value of each purchase.
SamCart is seeking a VP of Engineering to help scale our growing engineering department! Our engineering organization has three key departments (operations, internal, and feature teams). The feature team is made up of mini-pods (team leads and engineers) who are primarily responsible for the team’s domain-specific features. The operations team manages SecOps, DevOps, and QA, and our internal team is our rapid response team which handles internal and customer requests. As VP of Engineering, you will be responsible for planning and implementing processes to improve developer efficiency, hiring great engineers, and taking an interest in the professional development of our engineering teams.
A successful VP of Engineering at SamCart will have exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills, years of engineering experience, and a belief in developing the skills and talents of others. Requirements
Responsibilities
- Work with leadership and product teams to ensure projects are executed on time and up to standards, and provide technical guidance during research and discovery phases.
- Set strategy and priorities for both operational and feature based engineering projects.
- Serve as chief architect and final decision maker for important operational, infrastructure, and code decisions.
- Strategize and organize technical improvements across all application domains.
- Coach and mentor department and team leads.
- Oversee in the hiring of new engineering staff and implement processes for personal growth.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer for a SaaS company.
- At least 2 years of experience managing an engineering team(s) at a SaaS company.
- Strong experience managing, coaching, and developing teams
- Bonus if distributed teams
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of the e-commerce industry
- Solid understanding of modern web application architectures
- Comfortable working in monolithic and microservice environments
- Experience using test automation and various CI/CD
