- Provide technical leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of applications deployed in a microservices architecture
- Assist in the decomposition of a monolithic application and data architecture following best practices in design and software development
- Contribute to overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance of applications
- Identify, scope, and architect solutions for new features while applying sound technical judgment that considers technology alternatives, impact on affected / adjacent systems, and tradeoffs
- Maintains existing services and applications, and develops new, highly complex original code while practicing test-driven development and taking end-to-end ownership of your part of the functionality
- Create automated deployment pipelines that support scalable and resilient microservice design patterns and architecture based in the Azure cloud
- Work with team members to provide insight into solving complex problems with middleware while leveraging enterprise and industry best practices (including scalability, availability, maintainability, and flexibility)
- Develop new documentation, departmental technical procedures and user guides
- Coach and mentor junior engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed
Requirements
- BSc/BA in Computer Science or a related degree
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years Enterprise Java
- Experience with third-party APIs and Web Services, API Gateways such as Kong
- RESTful API design and development experience
- Experience working on cloud infrastructure (Azure)
- Experience with Event Driven Design processes and tools (ActiveMQ, Kafka)
- Experience using system monitoring tools (e.g. New Relic) and automated testing frameworks
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL). Non-relational is a plus.
- Experience working in a DevOps culture
- Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture
