Engineering Manager - API Development

Our client seeks an Engineering Manager to focus on supporting and expanding the company’s internal API development teams that manage the core APIs that drive publishing and web platforms at one of the largest and fastest-growing online publishers. The ideal candidate will lead three teams to build out the next generation of the company’s workflow engine, user authentication, API gateways, and content and product services utilizing REST and GraphQL in a Java/Kotlin environment.

Your Role

• Lead, own and drive projects from start to completion including system architecture design, code design, development, and integration
• Partner closely with Product Management to ensure our API services meet business needs
• Grow team leads, and work closely with individual teams to design and build amazing API’s
• Develop technical roadmaps to ensure services meet performance requirements, are well maintained, and use the best technologies for the demands
• Keep up with new technologies and approaches to solve problems and improve existing systems
• Represent the services teams during cross-functional design and integration meetings

Requirements

• 2+ years experience in a management role
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
• Understanding of SDLCs and CI/CD
• Strong in systems design and architecture
• Knowledge of HTTP services and other technologies underpinning web servers
• Expert knowledge of Java/Kotlin and concurrency, REST and GraphQL architectures, distributed caching and system performance
• Experienced with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
• Knowledge of AWS / Cloud providers is a strong plus
