Role and Responsibilities
This position supports Samsung’s Home Appliance Division in the US by assisting R&D engineers to provide an independent performance assessment of new models based on external reviewer’s protocols and R&D product development. This role continuously evolves and supports home appliances, with ownership of washers, dryers and dishwashers.
The position is based in Pine Brook, NJ.
Specific responsibilities include:
Conduct competitive benchmark performance testing to industry protocols for major appliance products
Update procedures as needed
Prepare test loads for laundry and dishwasher products and test to industry & reviewer standards
Set up tests, collect/analyze data and write detailed reports
Perform noise judgement
Carrying of heavy loads, bending and stooping, exposure to heat and food products
Ability to hear and see various aspects of machine performance and monitoring and equipment states
Very good vision: ability to judge for cleanliness, and train panelists to do same
Flexible workday schedule, depending on tests being run; starting times and ending times may vary at times
Flexibility: Assignments may vary depending on specific R&D requests
Provide support to other categories, as needed
In addition to R&D, run tests to support other departments, including ATO, Product Support, Product Safety, Legal, Marketing, Public Relations
Check products for issues and report findings. Recommend fix depending on specific problem
Conduct product life testing and product tear down
Skills and Qualifications
Background & Competencies Required:
Associate degree in Consumer Science or Mechanical Engineering. Bachelor’s degree preferred
Background courses in chemistry and consumer sciences
1-2 years related consumer testing experience preferred
Strong math and computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Tableau, Labview, Matlab, statistical analysis, database management)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Organizing and time management skills
Must have testing lab experience, preferably in major appliances setting
Machine and test equipment setup/hookup, data collection, load preparation, test conditions, etc.
Ability to identify potential problems in the tests, machine setup, and test conditions, etc.
Ability to pay attention to detail
Ability to function in a highly flexible team atmosphere
Ability to perform basic demonstrations to visitors, including reviewers, PR/Marketing team and executives if needed
Some travel may be required: 5-10%
