Job Description

We are excited to launch this opportunity to diverse men and women experienced in turbomachinery lab management with the world’s leading independent, full service turbomachinery design, development, research, and training organization.
Our prototype projects include: Fuel pumps for next gen. rockets, air dynamometers, advanced diffuser technology, reverse Brayton refrigeration systems, and more.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead our turbomachinery development amp; testing laboratory
  • Design and test projects
  • Lead and contribute hands on to planning, assembly amp; testing of new turbomachinery products.
  • Design of rigs, hands on building of test rigs, and (ideally) programming Labview software.
  • Work with world class experts in turbomachinery and highly capable support staff in other business units.
  • Develop, build, and test experimental hardware and specialized products.

Principal Duties

  • Coordinate efforts to design prototype hardware and test facilities.
  • Schedule and coordinate work of test engineers/mechanical technicians.
  • Plan assembly activities and prototype testing.
  • Assemble and test development and production rigs and equipment.
  • Develop test plans and procedures, as well as associated DAQ software.
  • Conduct testing and perform test data analysis.
  • Complete projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain specifications/test plans for new products being developed/tested within your team.
  • Developing the test facility from concept to completion, as part of a cross functional team to ensure the test approach meets its requirements in a cost effective manner.
  • Hand calculations in XLS to assess form/fit/function of your design/proposed approach: not limited to thermodynamics, heat/mass balance, heat transfer, statics loads, and more.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting a test facility with a team and other in house engineers
  • Conducting turbomachinery testing: Establishing system controls and procedures, performing equipment calibration and operating test facilities.
  • Post process test results, working with other engineers to evaluate system performance and recommend next steps as needed to ensure the products meets customer requirements.
  • Requirements

    • Must be a U.S. citizens or permanent resident.
    • BS/MSME
    • 10 years experience in turbomachinery testing
    • Strong in statics, dynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, and mechanical designExperience leading technical projects in a Ramp;D prototyping environment, specifically testing of turbomachinery systems (compressors, turbines, and pumps).
    • Strong project management/leadership skills.
    • Fundamental understanding of turbomachinery principles is a must
    • Hands on experience building/testing/troubleshooting of turbomachinery, instrumentation and controls
    • Experience with LabView DAQ software development is highly desired.
    • Proven track record of managing and leading mechanical engineering staff.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and problem solving skills
    • Proven ability to drive change, manage conflict, and achieve results
