SUMMARY:

Generation Bio seeks an energetic, versatile, and highly motivated Scientist to join our Preclinical Research group. For this position, the successful candidate will support our antibody gene transfer platform and preclinical development of our growing pipeline of development candidates. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research and development of antibody biologics with experience in their design, molecular cloning, expression, and pharmacology. This role will be primarily responsible for in vivo characterization of antibody gene therapies, including designing and executing animal studies to analyze pharmacokinetic properties as well as functional activity of expressed antibodies. This work will also include cross-functional research to optimize our platform for antibody expression and contribute to the identification of new targets and design of therapeutic candidates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop tools and design in vivo experiments to screen lead constructs and characterize antibody PK/PD
  • Design methods to structurally characterize lead molecules produced in vivo
  • Design, optimize, and execute assays to assess antibody expression (e.g. RT-qPCR, ELISA, Western Blot) amp; biological effects (e.g. target engagement, activity, effector function) from tissue samples/plasma/serum
  • Develop, characterize and evaluate animal disease models
  • Manage external CRO activities, including project design, timelines and quality of deliverables
  • Design experiments, analyze data amp; interpret results
  • Summarize studies in written reports and oral presentations
  • Review literature to identify relevant disease targets and therapeutic antibodies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Molecular and/or Cell Biology, Virology, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience preferred
  • B.S. or M.S. with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Excellent lab technique and the ability to work independently to analyze, interpret, and present data
  • Experience in infectious diseases and execution of viral challenge studies preferred
  • Proficient in protein detection methods including ELISA and Western Blot analysis from in vivo (tissue/plasma/serum) and in vitro (cells) samples
  • Experience with DNA/RNA purification and quantification, biochemical assays, enzymatic assays, and/or cell imaging methods (e.g. IHC, FACS)
  • Ability to multi-task to support multiple projects across platform and disease biology pharmacology
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience with gene therapy a plus
