SUMMARY:

Generation Bio seeks an energetic, versatile, and highly motivated associate/sr. associate scientist to join our Preclinical Research group. For this lab-based position, the successful candidate will support our antibody gene therapy platform and preclinical development of our growing pipeline of development candidates. The ideal candidate will have a background in research and development of biologics with experience in their characterization and expression in vitro. This role will be primarily responsible for implementing biochemical and cell-based assays for antibody gene therapy therapeutic lead selection as well as supporting efforts to optimize recombinant antibody expression.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out molecular and cell biology experiments, including but not limited to, DNA cloning, transient transfections, electrophoresis, cell culture maintenance
  • Optimize and execute plate-based assays to assess expression (e.g. ELISA, RT-qPCR, Western Blot) amp; functional activity (e.g. target engagement, enzyme activity, signaling pathway activation/inhibition) from tissue samples, plasma/serum, and cell culture.
  • Design experiments, analyze data amp; interpret results
  • Summarize studies in written reports and oral presentations

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or M.S. with 2+ years of relevant industry experience (preferred)
  • Excellent lab technique and the ability to work independently to analyze, interpret, and present data
  • Proficient in protein detection methods including ELISA, MSD, and Western Blot analysis from both in vivo (tissue/plasma/serum) and in vitro (cells) samples
  • Proficient with cell culture manipulation techniques (e.g., transfections, cell-based assays)
  • Experience running in vitro assays to assess binding affinity (e.g. Octet, Biacore) is a plus
  • Experience with DNA/RNA purification and quantification, biochemical assays, enzymatic assays, and/or cell imaging methods (e.g. IHC, FACS) is a plus
  • Ability to multi-task to support multiple projects across platform and disease biology pharmacology
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience with gene therapy and/or lead optimization a plus
