Job Description

Our Finance team in Armstrong Flooring is growing and this is a brand new position that we've added. Reporting to the Vice President amp; Controller, our Assistant Controller is a key leader within the Finance team and manages the accounting, financial reporting, and financial systems to:

  • Ensure the integrity of the Company's financial data and reporting
  • Enforce the corporate accounting policies and procedures with GAAP and SEC requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement and development of the financial staff and processes
  • Partner with Controller and other senior team members to continually evaluate and provide strategic business insights and direction

You will also ensure appropriate accounting and financial reporting, assuring a sound internal control environment and providing critical accountability and guidance for finance leadership across the organization.

How you’ll contribute to the team:

  • Lead a team of 1-2 managers with responsibility for key accounting areas.
  • Lead and coordinate our company’s internal and external reporting functions.
  • Responsible for the monthly corporate-wide consolidation and reporting process. Leads the preparation and review of external financial statements for reporting to SEC and SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, etc.).
  • Leads accounting rule implementation and initiate changes in corporate policies and procedures as necessary for new accounting rules and best practices.
  • Partner with finance leaders and corporate department leaders to assist them in understanding the appropriate accounting for various business transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SEC and corporate policies.
  • Perform corporate wide financial statement analysis and review.
  • Function as subject matter expert on key technical areas including stock-based compensation, pension and post-retirement benefit programs and derivatives accounting.
  • Assist Controller with the coordination of work performed by the company’s external auditors and monitor and resolve issues promptly.
  • Assist the Controller in preparing for investor communications, including quarterly earnings releases.
  • Lead financial system improvements to ensure the accuracy and availability of financial reports for use by the business.
  • Assist with various projects requiring Controller’s Department involvement.
  • Develop future financial leaders through talent development, training and mentoring of individuals, as well as staffing and recruiting of necessary skill sets.

Requirements

What you'll bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college or university is required
  • CPA, or comparable credentials and experience
  • 10+ years of financial management experience in respected, manufacturing-based, public companies with an established background in accounting and accounting standards, operations support, internal and external reporting, SEC and related compliance requirements and continuous improvement.
