Overview
We are looking for a Grocery Buyer to drive our national assortment strategy for our metro areas within the perimeter and center store categories. Reporting directly to the Head of Buying amp; Marketplace, your primary responsibility is to generate national partnerships across CPG suppliers. You will be responsible for finding and building partnerships for your respective categories and owning the corresponding assortment and KPIs.
As one of the early members of Gorillas, you will have a significant role in shaping the direction of our business and category.
Your Responsibilities
- Assortment planning and strategy with your respective CPG vendors/categories
- Ownership of vendor negotiations inclusive of COGS, trade, and marketing
- Ensuring your assortment is focused on:
- Meeting the Gorilla’s customers’ needs for new and repeat purchases
- Driving profitable category and platform growth
- Set the goals and strategic direction for your categories ensure relevancy and rapid scalability
- Work closely with marketing and site merchandising to identify opportunities to drive awareness to these brands
- Partner with internal supply chain and logistics teams to ensure seamless inventory flow throughout the network
- Drive strategic buying decisions with data-driven insights
- Optimize shelf space to maximize revenue per order and reduce cannibalization across categories
- Attend relevant trade shows and conferences
Requirements
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Merchandising or related field
- 3+ years of experience in Grocery Buying / Category Management
- Advanced knowledge in category management and/or product development
- Ability to effectively manage negotiations and conduct category management
- Demonstrated leadership abilities within grocery retail
- Traveling throughout the city 25-50% of the time to establish partnerships
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a start-up environment - Grocery / Food amp; Beverages ideal
- Established network of suppliers, distributors and retailers
