Job Description
Edmit is an award-winning and mission-driven team passionate about solving the student debt crisis and empowering students and families to make smarter financial decisions about college and student debt. Our product consists of software and educational content as well as human advising, and is distributed to high school families at no cost through sponsorships.
We are currently seeking a Product amp; UX Designer to own the Edmit user experience from end to end. This role will be responsible for user experience design, user research, and user interface design to help refine and improve Edmit’s products and design new features for our 1+ million users. The ideal candidate is creative and a passionate user advocate with experience effectively shipping and maintaining web products, ideally in a start-up environment. This individual will create a tremendous positive impact for our users and within Edmit through close collaboration with product management and our engineering team. This role can be either contract or full-time.
Key Responsibilities
User Experience Design
- Understand and manage UX architecture and pathing of multiple user types across multiple feature-heavy experiences
- Collaborate with product managers to define design, content, and functionality requirements that achieve product goals.
- Manage content, keep content up-to-date in designs or other tools depending on the context.
- Ability to report bugs and write tickets.
- Perform QA as needed on designs on staging and production.
User Research
- Constantly work to understand and advocate for user needs.
- Manage all aspects of user research from creating a learning agenda and any necessary prompts to creating interview guides, recruiting users, managing communication, conducting and synthesizing user research.
User Interface Design
- Create production-ready designs for small and large breakpoints within an established design system.
- Quickly create design prototypes that effectively communicate and/or enable testing of key design attributes
- Ability to adhere to, manage, and improve upon existing design system
- Collaborate closely with engineering team members to ensure effective communication of design requirements.
- Bonus if familiar with Storybook.
Requirements
- Strong track record of collaborating with engineering teams and producing designs effectively within a high-performing product management and development team.
- Mastery of design and UI specification platforms, ideally Sketch and Zeplin.
- Experience with designing and conducting user research to achieve needed insights into user needs and behavior.
- Experience operating within an Agile development methodology, including using design sprints to structure and prioritize work.
- Excellent demonstrated interpersonal/communication skills
- A passion for consumer technology businesses and experience or demonstrated interest in some or all of the following: K12 and/or higher education, financial services/fintech, data and analytics, marketing analytics
