The Field Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs of trucks and equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and customer focused manner. Perform maintenance and repair to manufacturer’s guidelines to maintain the safety and reliability of the unit. This position reports to the Shop Manager.
- Ability to work independently and/or work alongside team members to produce quality work
- Inspect, diagnose, maintain, service, and repair a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, graders, loaders, rollers, sweepers, pavers, small equipment such as demo saws, pumps, generators, and other equipment used in asphalt and concrete construction. Perform major and minor repairs, and routine maintenance
- Repair/rebuild engines, transmissions, final drives, hydraulic pumps and motors, and other components
- Make service calls on equipment to perform emergency repairs
- Operate equipment to diagnose malfunctions
- Use scanners and other electronic testing equipment to accurately diagnose and repair problems
- Operate hand and power shop tools to perform repairs
- Welding, brazing, cutting
- Maintain all hand and power tools in safe and efficient operating condition
- Train other employees in proper operation, safety, and service of equipment
- Regulate use of equipment in the absence of supervisory personnel, if needed
- Responsible for shop and work area maintenance, safety, and cleanliness
- Perform related work as required and assigned
Requirements
- Heavy Duty truck/equipment technical training or 5 years related experience
- Current valid driver’s license. CDL (Class A or B) a plus
- Possess own hand tools up to 1.5, air tools, miscellaneous tooling needed to perform job, and a lockable toolbox
- One (1) year of experience using CAT Electronic Technician, SIS, and other scan tools is highly desirable
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, managers, and customers
- Ability to consistently produce high quality work
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, irregular hours, and be on call
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be able to provide legal right to work in the U.S. as BBAC participates in E-Verify
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Bilingual is a plus
- Basic mathematical skills
