Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide leadership, support and guidance to the Insurance Business Unit (IBU) employees as its underwriting manager. Develop and manage assigned underwriters and employees in accordance with agreed upon objectives
- Analyze prospective risks and propose recommended insurer, benefits, policy forms, terms amp; conditions, rates and splits that will reasonably achieve targeted profit and are marketable
- Analyze inforce risks and propose renewal terms that will reasonably achieve targeted profit and are marketable
- Answer questions, provide direction and make decisions on issues that arise on a day-to-day basis related to assigned accounts, applying analytical and problem-solving skills, common sense, creativity and the ability to persuade
- Present your position or point of view to insurers, prospects, clients, brokers, co-workers, actuarial or others in a fashion that is cogent and convincing, both orally and in writing
- Develop and maintain relationships with key managers with insurers, service providers, MGA’s TPA’s, and providers doing business with Meridian
- Lead development of underwriting, pricing, products, policy forms and insurer/producer relationships for new lines of business under the direction of the BU leader and in co-ordination with actuarial
Requirements
- Firm understanding of underwriting and risk mitigation principles
- Insurance product development expertise
- Experience managing and onboarding producers
- Expertise in Excel
