Senior Packaging Engineer supporting Nice-Pak projects working within the Ramp;D Packaging / Innovation Development Team. This position will develop, lead and execute Ramp;D plans and protocols to launch new products. The position will lead Ramp;D package innovation amp; development activities, ensuring milestones are met. Identify technical and project risks and ensure strategies are developed to effectively mitigate these risks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Understands packaging-related business needs and competitive landscape
- Leads the packaging development for new initiatives
- Develops line trial protocols and writes trial reports, SOP’s and specifications
- Drive for excellence in project management and technical leadership in packaging programs from pre-concept initiation through hand-off and commercialization
- Develops ideas, concepts and prototypes to solve problems and meet customer/consumer needs in new and superior ways
- Research packaging materials and determine the most cost effective and quality packaging available
- Identifies needs gaps and opportunities
- Technical interface with suppliers
- Develop timelines, risk assessment and contingency plans to ensure execution on projects
- Identifies technical and project risks and ensures strategies are in place to effectively mitigate risks
- Support new plant trials for packaging materials/project work, working with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Procurement, Business Development, Production, Supply Chain and Quality)
- Properly plan, coordinate and report each trial, provide appropriate level of technical support and troubleshooting to execute trial objectives and ensure proper documentation of each activity
- Design, plan and conduct analytical testing, line trials and package performance testing
- Documenting technical project work and trial activity in timely manner
- Identifies key quality attributes for packaging components
- Works with plant associates to gain alignment to specifications
- Perform packaging testing and analyze results to determine if packaging meets standards
- Develops, writes and validates test methods to evaluate performance of packaging prototypes
- Examine quality issues with packaging and work with suppliers to correct issues
- Provides guidance and direction to junior scientists
- Plans own workload to ensure tasks and objectives are completed and collaborates as a participative team member to ensure Ramp;D milestones are met
- Makes and supervises production of samples for marketing presentations, laboratory evaluation, consumer and clinical testing.
- Ensures their activity is aligned to project milestones
- Be point of contact for all packaging related questions
- Trains new hires on test methods and departmental SOP
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
BS (Packaging degree preferred, MS a plus) or equivalent work experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Advanced technical knowledge of consumer packaging, e.g., flexible films, rigid containers/injection molding, cartons, and corrugated;
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Seven years plus relevant CPG experience in packaging development; previous experience in wipes packaging advantageous; developing and launching innovative packaging solutions; Familiar with prototyping techniques such as 3-D printing; plant/equipment experience
