Each summer, Summer Discovery offers motivated high school students the opportunity to learn on a college campus. Various dynamic programs and courses provide talented and motivated high school students opportunities to learn more about a subject area of their interest. These programs enable students to learn from qualified pre-college instructors, subject matter experts and gain hands-on learning experience through classroom activities. Our mission is to provide the best experiential, university-based summer academic programs that positively change students' lives from around the world.

Summer Discovery is seeking to hire Curriculum Advisors for various Summer 2021 courses. The curriculum is rigorous and project-based; students are engaged in multiple academic exercises, compelling guest speakers from the field, experiential, hands-on activities culminating into a final capstone project. The Curriculum Advisor is responsible for developing and planning an experiential and engaging project-based course. Before starting the program, you will regularly consult by phone, email, or video conference with our Campus Specialist team, EdTech team, Director of Educational Development, and appointed adjunct instructors.

Duties amp; Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of course maintenance and development process and ensure that any changes to the control course have been approved and reflect instructional quality and alignment with Summer Discovery’s standards and teaching and learning approach.
  • Maintain master documentation related to the curriculum, including curriculum mapping and matrices, master syllabi, course maintenance changes, course files, and course revision documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Educational Development to strengthen existing and implement new quality and course design standards based on innovative pedagogy and best practices such as active learning, integration of new technologies, project-based learning (final capstone project), simulation, case studies, guest speakers, and possible off-site visits.
  • Oversees identification, analysis, and resolution of academic curriculum quality issues and communicates clear and timely pre-program updates to Campus Specialist, EdTech team, Director of Educational Development, and appointed adjunct instructors.
  • Responsible for relevant learning management system course site updates in Canvas, including course description, learning objectives, assignments, assessments, and established course materials.
  • Provide a tentative program schedule within two weeks of a signed contract, final schedule as soon as possible.
  • Meet with the Director of Educational Development and Campus Specialist team before program implementation to discuss activities and the requirements of the appointed Instructors support staff and students.
  • Provide some guidance with the Campus Specialist team and appointed Instructors while the program is in session.
  • Attend appropriate training and two curriculum roundtable meetings with the Director of Educational Development.
  • Review and analyze course outcome data and report metrics to the Director of Educational Development related to consistency in evaluation measures, reliability of signature course activities, simulation experiences, guest speakers, off-site visits and capstone projects, and overall instructor performance. Make recommendations for revision based on data.

Qualifications

  • Current graduate student or master’s or terminal degree; from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization. Ph.D.* preferred
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and certifications may be considered.
  • Evidence of service to the profession.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience a must; High School teaching experience preferred
  • Professional experience with curriculum planning in higher education and or pre-college setting preferred
