About the Role

Capella is seeking a Director of Business Development to execute Capella’s business development efforts. Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Development, you will be responsible for crafting and executing a strong Business Development strategy to approach a specific customer segment aligned to the Commercial, Civil Government, and Defense amp; Intelligence sectors, to identify new and unique opportunities for pursuit and revenue generation. This role will work closely with our Sales, Marketing, Product, and Engineering teams to explore new vertical markets and define capture strategies to create new revenue streams. The team will be responsible for top of the funnel pipeline development, ranging from awareness and outbound prospecting, inbound responsiveness, and lead generation campaigns in partnership with the Marketing team. Additionally, the team will own strategic partnership development, Capella’s Community initiatives, and broad awareness of our Open Data campaign.

Responsibilities

  • Create, manage and own the pursuit and capture plan of new greenfield revenue generation efforts in an assigned vertical market sector.

Leverage deep industry experience to unlock new pursuits or over-the-horizon opportunities for Capella

  • Derive meaningful customer insights to fuel the product roadmap, and keep the company apprised of changing trends, competitive intelligence and other economic indicators.
  • Working in partnership with the Marketing team, provide prospect feedback on positioning and create new lead generation campaigns to drive inbound requests and own the response and qualification process.
  • Attend relevant industry events and workshops to uncover new insights and maintain Capella presence as a thought leader within the industry.
  • Working with our Community lead, open new strategic partnerships and cultivate a strong community of advocates for Capella’s product and services offering.
  • In partnership with Sales, develop appropriate handoff of key opportunities as they progress through the funnel
  • Maintain accuracy within our CRM (Salesforce) on pursuits and leads, and provide monthly revenue forecasting in partnership with regional sales leads as well as key metrics on lead conversion and opportunity qualification.
  • Have deep experience in one or more of the below vertical markets:
  • Defense amp; Intelligence: Familiarity with FAR, FMF, FMS, DCS and the Security Assistance Process, as well as International government contracting.
  • Civil Government: Familiarity with GSA and Government Contracting, as well as sectors such as Mapping, Charting, Census, Agriculture, Space, Research amp; Development, etc.
  • Commercial: Experience in industries such as Energy, Mining, Agriculture, Automotive, Consumer Mapping, other potential non-traditional earth observation data users, etc.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of proven excellence in business development, inside sales and/or sales
  • Experience in the geospatial, earth observation, space, ISR or analytics industry required
  • Have a strong network of industry and customer contacts
  • Ability to learn the value proposition of Synthetic Aperture Radar data including how it works alongside use cases and applications
  • Have full-cycle direct business development experience working in partnership with other internal teams

Bachelor’s degree required

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, coupled with excellent listening skills and a positive and energetic presence
  • Strong organizational skills, with effective time management
  • Ability to think critically and develop
