Job Description

We’re Apogee. Nice to meet you. At our core, we’re a student services organization that happens to focus on IT. We touch the lives of binge-watching, music-loving, game-playing, finals-taking, seminar-attending, class-selecting students by providing IT infrastructure that meets the needs of today’s technology-savvy generation.

We work hard, celebrate success, and challenge everyone in our organization to be a problem solver. If you are as passionate as we are about the intersection of technology and education, join us today.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Network Security Engineer to join our product development group in Austin, TX. This highly technical, hands-on role will work with cross-functional teams to engineer, design, implement and deploy Apogee’s next-generation network and security infrastructure. You’ll need a solid background in building and supporting large campus/enterprise networks, and have a creative, problem-solving mindset. We believe this is a tremendous opportunity for someone with the right skills and business acumen to help Apogee build and improve the managed network services for our clients.

Here's your job:
  • Develop and implement new network and security infrastructure in collaboration with the Product Management team to support future Apogee products and services
  • Support and troubleshoot API system integration efforts between network systems and cloud-based software and reporting tools
  • Install and maintain switches, routers, firewalls, network access control systems, and other networking equipment in a lab environment used for performance evaluation and software development activities
  • Develop standard processes and procedures for testing, deploying, and servicing network infrastructure at new and existing clients
  • Provide technical training and guidance to other technical groups within Apogee as part of new product launch activities
  • Occasionally provide tier-3 support to other Apogee technical teams to aid in resolving complex network and security outages and service interruptions
  • Maintain technical relationships with leading network infrastructure hardware and software vendors. Evaluate new and upcoming solutions from these vendors for potential inclusion in future products.
  • Develop, maintain and review standard repositories of network documentation and design specifications

You'll love this job if this describes you:

Problem Solving. You aren’t satisfied until you’ve completely solved a problem, and you take time to get it right, look beyond the obvious, and deliver correct and honest assessments and answers.

Keep Learning. You are personally and professionally committed to continuous improvement. You take a whole approach to learning: books and academics, experience at work, and learning from your peers

Technical Aptitude. Some projects we take on have subtle differences, and others present obstacles we haven’t faced yet. You’re able to apply your baseline of knowledge and natural technical aptitude to help you on easy tasks and challenging issues.

Team. There’s a lot of room for individual success, but it all starts at the core, a strong team. You demonstrate open, positive communication, listen to others, and encourage group troubleshooting.

High-Quality Standards. This is a high-impact, highly visible position. You have internal and external clients depending on the quality of work you deliver (never mind the financial impact of low quality). You care about your work and your customers.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in an enterprise network or security engineering
  • Hands-on experience with network access control and identity management systems such as Cisco ISE, RADIUS, etc.
  • Experience working with switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs
  • Experience with API integration between software systems and network infrastructure
  • Experience with NetFlow and log management concepts
  • Understanding of layer-2 and layer-3 network segmentation best practices
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation in Python or equivalent language
  • Familiarity with enterprise Wi-Fi/WLANs
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain fast paced milestones and deliverables
