Job Description
In order to port over the next billion people into a secure and open financial system, you’re going to need a network of applications that connect to the fiat world Wyre’s APIs make that happen.
Our mission is to empower fintech projects to execute their vision by offering them secure access to the largest financial network in the world (the Wyre Network).
To accomplish this mission, we’ve built a simple set of tools that allows fintech projects to materialize their visions. (1) Our instant Fiat-to-Crypto Checkout gateway is now being used by hundreds of applications (ie. MetaMask, Opera, BRD) to offer the best way to convert card payments into crypto, and (2) our flexible APIs (Transfers API, Custody API, Users API), allow projects to build e-wallets, merchant processing services, and money transfer platforms from the ground up.
We focus on compliance, licensing, regulatory, liquidity, and payment processing aspects so our partners can do what they do best, creating amazing tools on the blockchain.
We’re looking for an amazing Head of Risk to lead our growing team and lead Wyre’s risk and fraud operations. This role will be a key part of the leadership team and supporting the day-to-day of a thriving, fast-paced tech-startup. We’re looking for a team-centered individual whose innovative focus and experience will take us to the next level! This role reports directly to the CEO.

- Build innovative risk management strategy to reduce financial exposure as well as improve customer experience
- Hire and manage a team of experienced fraud managers and data analytics professionals
- Fully understand areas of risk for the organization; have strategies in place to combat common threats
- Work closely with client-facing personnel and key stakeholders
- Analyze large quantities of data to identify fraud patterns
- Minimize the risk of fraud and financial abuse across users
- Stay up-to-date with current technology, product changes and fraud trends
- Plan relevant testing, perform rollout planning and execution
- Definition and on-going monitoring of fraud related KPIs
- Evangelize the power of analytics and experimentation in building a data-driven organization
- Leverage third party risk management tools to expand fraud detection capabilities.
- Train and develop risk team members on manual review process and how to detect fraudulent activity
- Monitor, analyze and report fraud/chargeback status status to all levels to the leadership and stakeholders
- Oversee the chargeback response process and coordinate efforts to sustain a strong partnership with outside service providers and key internal partners
Requirements
- Strong thought leadership in the risk management space and a product focus
- The ability to convert broad strategies into clear objectives
- Strong stakeholder management skills including navigating difficult situations, negotiating timelines, and influencing internal and external stakeholders across organizations and regions
- Knowledge and passionate about both payments and of the cryptocurrency space
- 8+ years of experience in the global card payments industry
- Understanding of the compliance and legal implications of fraudulent activities
- Strong analytical skills and experience with analytics tools (SQL, Tableau, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze data, develop insights and present conclusions and recommendations to all levels of the organization
- Macro-to-micro versatility: strategic mindset coupled with a keen attention to detail
- Creative problem solver and critical thinking skills with a bias towards action and being a doer
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and excel in a cross-functional environment
