We are seeking a Vivarium Husbandry Technician II to provide (under general supervision) husbandry and/or investigative support within our PreClinical team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of genomics and therapeutics and participate in the development of a diverse therapeutic pipeline driven by a transformative core technology. The successful candidate will work well in a team environment and across multiple disciplines in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Note: This position includes work on weekends/holidays on a rotational basis, and may at times include longer work days if needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide handling and restraint of rodents and non regulated specie
  • Provide general husbandry and perform cage change procedures
  • Perform daily health observations with demonstrated ability to recognize and report abnormalities and common signs of illness
  • Provide study support such as mouse body weights, breeding/mating, plug checks, weaning, sample collection for genotyping, shaving mice, etc.
  • Receive animals and ear tag into approved studies
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g. documentation of various facility procedures amp; metrics)
  • Perform routine facility sanitation procedures; maintain a clean, clutter-free facility
  • Prepare and stock supplies for rooms
  • Monitor and record facility environmental parameters
  • Perform euthanasia procedures as directed
  • Perform sentinel husbandry procedures to include assisting in receiving, housing and shipping sentinel animals as requested
  • Assist in receiving process; monitor the inventory and provide order requests for animal food, bedding and enrichment
  • Operate husbandry-related equipment (e.g. autoclaves, laminar air flow cabinets, etc.) using approved validation technologies
  • Autoclave surgical tools and prepare caging for change outs
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to facility alarms
  • Discard expired (non-regulated) supplies
  • Adhere to proper handling and disposal procedures for hazardous materials
  • Keep assigned areas well maintained
  • Foster a safe work environment for self and colleagues
  • Provide logistical support, standard supplies and caging/ equipment for investigators
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in a Biological Sciences discipline
  • High School Diploma/GED with 2 or more years’ experience in a laboratory animal husbandry setting
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, attention to detail, organization, work in a team environment
  • Achieve work goals with minimal daily oversight
  • Computer literacy in word processing, excel, and database record keeping
  • Follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
  • Work with rodents, with risk of exposure to animal allergens, zoonotic diseases, and biohazards
  • Demonstrate accountability and ethics in performance of daily responsibilities.
  • Stand for long periods of time, and use repetitive hand motions
  • Ability to lift items up to 50lbs independently and or occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 100lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work around sharps, hazardous/Chemical/Biological materials
  • Ability to work on weekends/holidays on a rotational basis, and be able to at times work longer days if needed.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree and 1 or more years of related experience or HS Diploma/GED with 4 or more years of experience in a laboratory animal husbandry
  • AALAS Certification
