Job Description

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is a non-profit organization that provides a year-round, unique, integrated academic and enrichment teen program and summer program service model that meets the distinctive needs of children with incarcerated parent(s). CPNYC’s mission is to embrace and empower the children of incarcerated parents to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system through guidance, support and access to the necessary resources to effectively develop leadership skills, form positive social relationships and enhance academic performance.

Position Summary:

With its expansion of services and opening of new locations, CPNYC is seeking to hire Part-Time Counselors for the Bronx Learning Lab program. Hours of work Monday Thursday 8:00am-3:00pm. Additional hours as needed.

  • Implement the CPNYC curriculum, helping school age children improve literacy competencies, values, and physical fitness in an activity-based environment
  • Assist senior counselor with planning and creating innovative age appropriate activities
  • Develop lesson plans to conduct them daily; read, tell stories, lead songs and games
  • Help maintain enrollment and daily attendance records
  • Assist children with homework and guide students in their academic growth
  • Other job-related duties as described in job description
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education/Licenses and Experience:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree or college credits, with relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; areas of study; General Education (K-8), Special Education, Social Work, Teaching, Professional Child Care, Psychology, or related fields
  • Bilingual a plus

Skills and Key Attributes:

  • Energetic and enthusiastic in working with youths

Working Conditions and Physical Demands required:

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • To conduct field trips or attend events, individuals will use public transportation or traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs and exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • An employee is expected up to stand 50% of during the shift
  • Ability to work with youth and the general public.
  • Remain in a stationary position or ambulate while monitoring and assisting participants.
