The Role

BCW's Public Affairs amp; Crisis professionals serve as trusted advisors to our clients, helping them build reputations and influence in the world's power centers, as well as navigate intensive, short-term policy battles. Our global Public Affairs amp; Crisis network has the people, relationships, and expertise to help our clients achieve their public policy and business objectives. Our approach integrates the best of traditional PR and public education with state-of-the-art digital communications tools to deliver the right message, through the right messenger, to the right people, at the right time.

You will be engaged in supporting our client’s public affairs and policy goals through trade and national media relations, executive visibility, though leadership, panels and conferences. In this highly visible team role you will also take part in efforts to build the overall service offering and participate in business development. The ideal Communications candidate will have a solid overall understanding of the DC public affairs and policy space coupled with the ability to draft strategic materials for clients, manage projects and think both strategically and tactically.

Responsibilities include:

  • Relentless curiosity and a passion for simplifying the complex, and developing communications tactics that resonate with DC stakeholders
  • Manage and organize communications activities, including writing press releases, talking points, opinion pieces, executing social media posts, list building and maintenance, daily media monitoring, and scanning media to identify opportunities for clients
  • Facilitate consistent, quality media placements around launches, campaigns, brand news, partnerships, evergreen storytelling opportunities and cultural moments to generate a steady drumbeat of earned press coverage
  • Serve as point of contact for reporters, representing the clients, and timely responds to media inquiries
  • Partner with internal team leads to develop and complete integrated communications plans
  • Assist with marketing + PR events including; logistics, coordination and staffing
  • Build trusted adviser relationship with clients
  • Create presentations and written proposals with new ideas for client objectives
  • Assist senior leaders in proposal writing, new business pitching and requests for proposals
  • Manage day-to-day client activities, projects, and team member workstreams

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of PR or agency work experience
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Strong writing and media relations skills and the ability to translate client’s needs into media opportunities
  • Understanding of key trade publications and national media outlets
  • Prior Capitol Hill or think tank experience preferred
  • Professional and pleasant interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work on a team and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to handle high priority and pressure situations
  • Advanced presentation skills, strong and persuasive communicator
  • Strong project management skills
  • Prior internship or employment experience in an agency setting is a plus.
