The Public Adjuster (PA) is a result-oriented self-starter with a positive attitude, with excellent communication, problem solving and strong advocacy skills. The PA is a professional claims handler who advocates for the policyholder in appraising and negotiating a claimant's insurance claim throughout the claim process. The PA works well in a rapid paced environment, models behaviors that reflect APA’s core values and reports to a Claims Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a summary of the essential functions. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Manage claims load and resolution of claims through completion in a timely manner in line with APA’s quality standards.
- Assist Claims Director in inspecting leads and signing them as needed.
- Inspecting, measuring, presenting, and advocating a claim from beginning to end.
- Effectively and efficiently utilize APA’s core resources for claims handling, including legal, engineering, loss draft, and leadership teams where needed to resolve claims and maximize value for our clients.
- Effectively and efficiently utilize all claims related management / support systems and tools.
- Be a good team member, help others where needed.
- Evaluate our client’s insurance policies in order to determine what coverage may be applicable to a claim.
- Thoroughly investigate assigned claims and prepare and present a strong claim presentation on behalf of APA’s clients to negotiate a settlement with the insurance company.
- Prepare detailed scope and cost estimates utilizing experts as required for effective substantiated claim presentation.
- Properly document claim files pursuant to APA’s Standard Operating Procedures.
Other:
- Be willing and open to learning how to use different hardware tools and software applications for the job.
- Manage Clients’ expectations.
- Establish on-going relationships with APA’s valued clients to create new leads and business opportunities.
- Maintain APA’s high-level service standards, reporting procedures, and statutory compliance.
- Participate in networking and marketing events representing APA as required.
- Maintain a regular course of self-improvement to satisfy licensing, continued education requirements, and increase professional internal APA and industry related knowledge.
- Strive to understand what others are trying to achieve, plan and execute work in a helpful and collaborative manner, be willing to adjust efforts to ensure that work and attitude are helpful to others, be self-accountable, create positive impact, and be diligent in delivering results.
- Promote APA in networking and marketing events to establish traction in the marketplace.
- Make sure all licenses and certificates are up to date.
- Identify areas of opportunities where PAs can expand their knowledge.
- Obtain AIC certification within 30 months from official hiring date (to be paid by APA).
Requirements
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
- Understanding of the insurance industry standards, policies, applicable laws and regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management related fields or, in-lieu of degree, equivalent education, training, and work-related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to eloquently present technical matters in simple terms for non-technical individuals.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and in Xactimate.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Goal oriented and comfortable working with metrics.
